A woman’s call to 911 led to the rescue of her husband and two daughters who were stranded on a boat for hours, Washington officials said.

The woman called seeking help for her family at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, the Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue said on Facebook.

The woman said the three “went fishing out of Brownsville Marina at 5:00 p.m.” on Tuesday, the post said. She explained that she had not heard or seen her family after speaking with her husband over the phone at 10 p.m., who said the boat’s battery had died.

The three were also “not picking up their cell phones,” the woman said, according to rescue officials.

After the Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue and Coast Guard decided to search “an area pinged by the cell phone” of one of the three family members, a drone found the 22-foot boat near Illahee State Park using infrared, the post said.

The drone “quickly located” the boat with the three missing family members, according to the post.

After rescuers arrived, the daughters were taken to the Illahee State Park dock, Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue said. Their ages were not provided.

“Mom came down to the park to pick up her daughters and the husband decided to stay overnight on the boat,” the post said.

The 82-acre Illahee State Park off Port Orchard Bay is about 40 miles north of Tacoma.
