Teen’s body found day after he jumped from an Oregon dam into a lake, deputies say
A 16-year-old boy jumped into an Oregon lake from a dam and never resurfaced from the water, a sheriff’s office said.
Rescuers responded to a possible drowning around 8:33 p.m. local time on Thursday, July 21, at Applegate Lake, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said.
The teen boy from Central Point had been jumping from the dam with a group of other teens, deputies said.
But then he never resurfaced from the water.
The group of teens tried to find him but could not, deputies said.
Deputies looked for the teen in the area but had to halt the search after a few hours because it got dark.
The teen’s body was found in the lake the next morning at 9:24 a.m., authorities said. The teen’s identity has not been released.
Applegate Lake is about 30 miles southwest of Medford.
