Architect’s last project a must-see: Modern glass home on Malibu beach listed at $25M
A modern, glass home designed by renowned architect Pierre Koenig in Malibu, California, has hit the market for $17.85 million, with features such as a drawbridge, car elevator, ‘smart’ technology and spectacular ocean views.
“One of the most exquisite architectural properties in Malibu, the Koenig Beach House, is the last project by renowned architect Pierre Koenig,” according to The Agency real estate firm. “(The home is) situated on Lechuza Point offering breathtaking ocean and coastline views down Broad Beach to Zuma Beach and Point Dume. Surrounded by cyprus and palm trees, the home offers great privacy and ocean views from all four bedrooms and living spaces.”
The four-bedroom, five-bathroom residence, spanning 3,600 square feet, is eco-friendly with floor-to-ceiling glass windows and sliding doors throughout letting in natural light. Powered by solar energy, the residence has Control4 total home-automation system and radiant floor heating.
The home was listed in January 2022 for nearly $25 million before re-emerging on the market May 11 at a reduced price, according to realtor.com.
“The Koenig Beach House is the epitome of architectural history, giving you the best of the Malibu luxury lifestyle,” according to the property listing.
The late architect was known for creating glass-and-steel homes in California, as well as a series of famous Case Study Houses.
Koenig died in 2004 before the beach home was completed. He had designed it for film producer Michael LaFetra. The architect’s partner, James Taylor, completed the house to Koenig’s specifications.
The home is now owned by real-estate developer Jeffrey Fish, according to Robb Report.
The home’s underground garage provides entrance to the inside with guest bedrooms and a theater on the lower level. Three bedrooms — and mesmerizing ocean views — cover the upper level.
There are retractable stairs leading down to the sand.
The primary bedroom features a fireplace and a floating walkway that leads to a private balcony that seems to float above the waves.
