Teacher accused of being intoxicated in high school class arrested, California cops say

A 46-year-old woman faces charges of being intoxicated while teaching a class at a San Rafael high school, California police reported.

A school employee reported the woman, a teacher at Terra Linda High School, to administrators on the morning of Wednesday, April 27, a police news release said.

An administrator went to her classroom to observe her and, noticing signs she was intoxicated, removed her, police said. The school also notified police.

A trained drug recognition expert interviewed the woman, who initially denied drinking, police said. An alcohol screening test showed she would have been three times over the legal limit if she had been driving, after which she admitted drinking alcohol.

The expert determined she also was under the influence of cannabis and a prescription drug, the release said.

She had been teaching classes all morning and “was responsible for the safety of 53 kids during her workday,” police wrote.

The San Anselmo woman faces charges including public intoxication and child endangerment, police said.
