24-year-old’s body found after he vanished on fishing trip in Hawaii, cops say

A 24-year-old vanished while on a fishing trip in Hawaii, police said. His body was found offshore.

Matthew Brown-Chong Kee of Kula was found dead Saturday, April 23, after he didn’t return home a day earlier, the Maui Police Department said.

He went fishing at Waianapanapa State Park on Friday, April 22, and was reported missing shortly before midnight. His vehicle was found unattended near the park’s parking lot.

“Search and rescue efforts continued around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2022, by Air-1, Coast Guard, Rescue 10, Engine 7, police, and the family of the missing male,” police said in a news release.

After hours of searching, his body was found about 150 feet from shore. Police are continuing to investigate.

“The Maui Police Department extends our deepest condolences to Mr. Brown-Chong Kee’s family and friends,” police said.
