14-year-old arrested after 10-year-old brother dies from gunshot in Nevada, cops say
A 10-year-old boy died after suffering a gunshot wound in his Nevada neighborhood. His 14-year-old brother now faces an involuntary manslaughter charge after being accused of shooting him, police say.
Officers responded to reports of the shooting at around 9:13 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, according to a news release from the Henderson Police Department. The 10-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and police took the 14-year-old boy into custody on the charge of involuntary manslaughter, the release said.
Rebekah Joachim, a parent who lives in the neighborhood, told News 3 that the incident was “extremely devastating.”
“I just can’t imagine what they’re going through,” Joachim told the outlet. “If that ever happened to me, I don’t know what I would do.”
Another resident, Donald Howsley, told 8 News Now that the area is normally safe and quiet.
“It’s very unusual to hear that it happens around the corner from your house,” Howsley told the outlet. “I have never been this close to something like this happening.”
Police said they are investigating the boy’s death as the second homicide in Henderson in 2022.
Henderson is located about 15 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas.
