Patient pup stuck on 150-foot cliff saved, returned to owners, Colorado rescuers say
A dog that was missing from her owners for two weeks was finally rescued after she was stuck on a 150-foot cliff above a Colorado creek.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region received a call about a dog stuck on a cliff on the morning of Dec. 8, the animal shelter said in a Facebook post.
Two officers with the shelter’s Animal Law Enforcement team arrived at the scene near Fountain Creek north of Pueblo and managed to spot the patient pup through their binoculars, they said in the post. The dog was trapped on a small ledge about 50 yards, or 150 feet, above the creek.
A man living nearby supplied officers with a mountaineering harness and rope so they could repel down to the dog.
“Once the dog saw Officer Barker, she immediately started to wag her tail and crawl towards her, but the ground was slipping out from underneath the dog,” the post said.
Another officer lowered a catchpole so Barker could pull the dog closer.
Finally, the dog was in Barker’s arms, who tied a makeshift harness onto her so she could be pulled to safety, the post said.
Once Barker and the dog were off the cliff, the animal shelter officers discovered the dog they’ve become acquainted with was named Jessie Lee.
Once Jessie Lee was brought to the humane society’s office, they were able to locate her owners.
“...Before we could even tell them the good news, Jessie Lee’s owner was asking if we found their beloved pup,” the post said.
Jessie Lee’s owners told the shelter that she’d been missing for two weeks, and they had been looking for her every day.
Once Jessie Lee was ready to head home from her little vacation, her owners picked her up the very next morning, the post said.
