Dogs are notorious for seeing fences as a challenge that must be met at any cost.

So sympathy is warranted in the case of a Louisiana dog that ended up hopelessly stuck when it tried to get out of a yard in St. George community outside Baton Rouge.

Embarrassing photos — which ended up on TV and social media — show the hound was in the process of cramming itself under the fence when it realized its rump was too big to squeeze through.

How long it was stuck like that is not clear. But the St. George Fire Department arrived to find the dog panting and wedged in tightly at the halfway point, unable to move forward or back up.

“Firefighters were able to free the dog quickly and safely by removing the fence,” the department posted on Facebook. “The dog was happily reunited with its family and neighborhood friends.”

Multiple photos shared by the department suggest the dog emerged from the predicament without injury, including one that showed a firefighter holding it in his arms like a toddler.

St. George is a community of about 7,000 people in the East Baton Rouge Parish.
