Leave your smoke bombs at home, TSA says. California traveler had four in his carry-on

Smoking on planes is not allowed — and that includes smoke bombs.

A man traveling through the San Diego International Airport is facing fines after trying to bring four smoke bombs onto a plane Sunday, Transportation Security Administration officials said.

“TSA officers discovered not one, but four smoke bombs in his carry-on luggage,” TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers said on Twitter. “These might be good for a game of paintball, but are never needed on a plane.”

Dankers said the man was cited by law enforcement and could be fined for having the smoke bombs in his carry-on luggage. TSA said local and state governments could have their own rules for how they enforce bringing violated items in carry-ons.

“Smoke bombs on a plane?” TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein said. “Heck, I thought everyone knew that you’re not allowed to smoke on a plane!”
