Lindsey Graham to quarantine over possible contact with Brazil official at Mar-a-Lago

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham will quarantine after potential contact at a Mar-a-Lago event with a Brazilian official who tested positive for coronavirus, officials said.

The event also was attended by President Donald Trump.

“Senator Graham was at Mar-a-Lago last weekend,” his office said in a statement. “He has no recollection of direct contact with the President of Brazil, who is awaiting results of a coronavirus test, or his spokesman who tested positive.”

Graham is self-quarantining out of an “abundance of caution” while waiting on test results, officials said.

“This is a precautionary measure,” Graham’s office said. “He will continue to work from home.”

As he was leaving the U.S. Capitol after the last vote Thursday afternoon, Graham told McClatchy News that he was consulting with his doctors as to whether he needed to be quarantined.

Trump said Thursday morning he was aware an aide to Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro was tested for coronavirus, NPR reported.

“Let’s put it this way: I’m not concerned,” Trump said, according to NPR.

Trump posed for a picture with the press secretary Fabio Wajngarten, who tested positive for COVID-19, CNBC reported.

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham released a statement Thursday that Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had “almost no interactions with the individual who tested positive and do not require being tested at this time.”

The United States has over 1,300 cases of coronavirus with at least 38 deaths, and more than 4,700 people have died worldwide, McClatchy reported.
