Juvenile detained as lockdown lifted at 3 Wakefield school campuses in Raleigh
A juvenile was detained by Raleigh Police Tuesday afternoon after a call about a suspicious person prompted a code red lockdown at three Wakefield schools.
Police received a call about 11:30 a.m. about a person with a gun near Wakefield High, Wakefield Middle and Wakefield Elementary.
No weapon was recovered, according to Raleigh Police Capt. Shawn McKenna, and threats were not reported to the schools.
No charges have been filed in this case and police did not disclose the identity of detained juvenile.
Police and Wake County school authorities have not said whether the juvenile is a student at any of the Wakefield schools.
In a joint email sent by the three principals, parents were told that the campuses went into a code red lockdown at approximately 11:30 am due to “police activity.” The principals said there was no need for parents to come to the campus because they believed the situation would be resolved quickly.
By 12:40 p.m., a Wake County school spokeswoman said the lockdown had been lifted. All three schools are located on Wakefield Pines Drive in Raleigh.
No details were provided in the letter about the police activity.
In a code red lockdown, the entire building is locked down. No one is allowed to enter or exit the building until an all-clear announcement is received from police.
Several schools across North Carolina, including in Wake County, went on a code red lockdown on Thursday due to what turned out to be hoax 911 threats.
