These are the top NC middle schools and elementary schools in U.S. News rankings

A Raleigh charter school ranks among the top K-8 schools in North Carolina in a new report from U.S. News & World Report.

Magellan Charter School in Raleigh was ranked as both the No. 3 elementary school and the No. 3 middle school in North Carolina in the 2022 Best K-8 Schools list released Tuesday. For the first time, U.S. News is ranking the nation’s elementary and middle schools to go along with its annual rankings of high schools and colleges.

In April, U.S. News released rankings on the nation’s top high schools. In September, U.S. News released its rankings of the nation’s top colleges and universities.

This time, U.S. News turned its focus on the nation’s 80,000 public elementary and middle schools. U.S. News looked at pre-pandemic test data from the 2018-19 school year to see how students were performing at each school on state math and reading exams.

Schools were evaluated both on the passing rates and how the results compared to their predicted scores, which were based on their student demographics. Schools were ranked higher if they outperformed their predicted score.

The results can be found at www.usnews.com/education/k12.
