A Wake County tow truck driver accused of killing a motorcyclist and injuring three others in a crash Friday has been convicted of driving while impaired multiple times.

Allan Christopher Guerrero, 39, faces a litany of charges, including aggravated felony death by vehicle, in the crash, Raleigh police said. Officers were called to the intersection of Capital Boulevard and Trawick Road shortly after 2:30 a.m. for a crash involving four vehicles.

Guerrero is accused of running a red light and turning left into oncoming traffic, striking a sedan and two motorcycles with his tow truck, according to a Raleigh Police Department news release.

One of the motorcyclists, 35-year-old Chandler Hodge, died at the scene, and Guerrero, the other motorcyclist and two occupants of the sedan were taken to the hospital for treatment, police said. Their injuries include a broken pelvis and a head injury, according to Guerrero’s arrest warrant.

Guerrero is also accused of cursing at and being rude to a Raleigh police officer and EMS workers on the scene and refusing to obey commands while police tried to investigate, court records show.

Court records reviewed by The News & Observer indicate this is Guerrero’s fourth time being charged with impaired driving. He’s been convicted of DWIs in Wake County in May 2025, July 2018 and March 2012. The most recent conviction saw his license surrendered and destroyed.

Undercover gun sales

All told, Guerrero has at least 13 prior convictions in North Carolina, largely related to traffic offenses and drug possession, court records show.

But he also served at least three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to funneling dozens of firearms, some of them stolen, from North Carolina to New York City, and selling them to undercover ATF and NYPD agents. Guerrero was arrested in October 2017 after failing to surrender for his sentence.

While in federal prison, Guerrero was supposed to receive treatment for alcohol use, but it’s not clear if that happened. North Carolina judges have ordered he undergo substance abuse assessments and treatments at least twice, court records indicate.

Guerrero has also had at least nine previous driving-related charges dismissed in North Carolina, including allegations of speeding and carrying open containers of alcohol in his vehicle, court records show. All told, he’s been charged with at least 19 driving-related offenses in North Carolina. He had an ignition interlock system on his car at the time of Friday’s crash, investigators wrote.

Separate from Friday’s incident, Guerrero also faces a pending charge of driving with a revoked license from September and a civil lawsuit in Nash County. In the latter case, Guerrero was sued by a Rocky Mount woman in March after he allegedly sold her a car for $11,000, despite the car having previously been declared a total loss from an accident.

Guerrero remained jailed on $350,000 secured bail as of Friday afternoon. Should he post bond, he must undergo continuous alcohol monitoring and is forbidden from operating a motor vehicle.
