19-year-old charged with murder after man found shot on Cornwallis Road in Durham
The Durham Police Department has charged a 19-year-old with murder after a shooting at the intersection of Cornwallis Road and South Roxboro Street on Thursday.
Police responded to a report around 4:30 p.m. and found 26-year-old Jalen Malik Perry with a gunshot wound. Emergency Medical Services took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
On Friday afternoon, police announced Zamir Browder, 19, of Durham, was charged later Thursday with murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.
Browder, who was on pre-trial release for a prior offense, is being held at the Durham County jail without bail, according to court records.
Police released no other information in Friday’s update, except to say “additional charges are being reviewed and considered.”
As of June 6, a total of 87 people had been shot in Durham this year, 11 of them fatally.
That compares to 64 reported shootings by the same time last year, 12 of them fatal.
