Woman found fatally shot in eastern Durham early Monday morning
Durham police are investigating after a woman was found fatally shot in the eastern part of the city early Monday morning.
Officers responded to the shooting just before 2 a.m. in the 2800 block of Rochelle St. It happened at Rochelle Manor apartments, CBS17 reported.
The woman, whose name and age have not been released, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, according to a news release
As of May 9, a total of 68 people had been shot this year in Durham, 10 of them fatally, according to the latest Durham Police Department statistics.
That compares with 48 people shot (10 fatal) by the same time last year and 74 people shot (13 fatal) the year before that.
Monday’s fatal shooting comes after several other shooting incidents in the last week.
- WRAL reported that Monday’s shooting was the fifth shooting it had covered since Friday.
- Last Tuesday three juveniles were shot at in a drive-by shooting on Rochelle Street, and a bullet was found inside a Rochelle Manor apartments bedroom, according to CBS17. Police confirmed on Monday that it happened at 6:52 p.m. and no injuries were reported
