2 killed in murder-suicide in Morrisville, police say

Morrisville police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a shooting incident Saturday afternoon.

Officers responded to a shots-fired call at 2:28 p.m. on Hildebran Lane in the Kitts Creek community in northwest Morrisville.

Investigators confirmed two deaths occurred, one homicide and one suicide.

The Morrisville Police Department has released no other details. The News & Observer has requested public records, including any 911 calls, to learn more.

Firearm deaths in North Carolina

In 2023 there were 1,767 firearm-related deaths in North Carolina, the N.C. Department of Health and Human Resources reported.

The leading causes of those deaths were suicide (55.5% of firearm deaths) and homicide (40.2% of firearm deaths), followed by legal discharge, accidental discharge and undetermined causes, the state report showed.

In 2022, the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions reported, there were at least 200 domestic violence-related homicides in North Carolina, 60% of them involving firearms.
