Durham police are investigating after two people were killed in a car crash following a hit-and-run in North Durham.

The incident began when a 2015 Ford Explorer driven by Jordon Jones, 22, of Durham struck another vehicle on Hebron Road about 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Durham Police Department news release.

Jones allegedly fled the scene and was traveling in the 4700 block of Denfield Street minutes later when he veered into the other lane, ran off the left side of the road and hit a tree, the release said.

The Explorer was speeding at the time of the crash, which killed Jones and his back passenger, 20-year-old Kymarion Williams of Durham, according to police.

Two additional passengers, a 25-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

No one was injured in the initial hit-and-run, police said Wednesday.
