14 guns seized, 36 arrested in Glenwood South as police denounce ‘violence and disorder’

Raleigh police arrested 36 people and seized 14 firearms over the weekend in the city’s nightlife and entertainment corridor in Glenwood South.

The Raleigh Police Department “made numerous drug and quality-of-life charges” in the area, according to a Facebook post depicting seized firearms, cash, marijuana and other substances.

These charges included assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, open container violations, indecent exposure, careless and reckless driving and DWI charges, the post said.

Raleigh police spokesman Lt. Jason Borne told The News & Observer that the charges occurred Friday and Saturday. He declined to specify what kind of firearms and drugs in total were seized in arrests.

Glenwood South is an area known for its daytime business persona that transforms into a place for party-goers at night.

In July, state ALE agents seized drugs and arrested five Glenwood South restaurant employees who worked at Botanical Lounge and Armadillo Grill. Marijuana and cocaine were allegedly bought from those workers.
