Man shot to death off NC 54 Monday morning is Durham’s 3rd fatal shooting in past week

Durham police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Monday morning off of N.C. 54.

Johnny Lloyd Banks Jr., 55, of Raleigh was killed around 7 a.m. in a strip mall in the 2200 block of the highway.

In the past week, at least three people have been fatally shot in Durham.

Last Tuesday, a man was shot and killed near the 1500 block of Robinhood Road. Police still have not released his name, but neighbors called him Red, according to ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

On Wednesday, 15-year-old Destiny Sideberry and 5-year-old Khloe Fennell were shot in a home on North Guthrie Avenue in East Durham. The older girl survived despite being shot multiple times, while Khloe died of her injuries.

There have been at least 23 people fatally shot in Durham this year, roughly the same number as those killed by this time in each of the past two years, according to police statistics.
