Durham police identify 64-year-old man found fatally shot near downtown

Durham police have identified a man found fatally shot Thursday as 64-year-old Jose Manuel Caceres-Murillo of Durham.

Officers responded to a shooting call around 8 a.m. in the 800 block of Park Avenue, east of downtown. They found man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation closed Park Avenue between Lathrop and Holloway streets for several hours.

Police have not released any other details.

As of Feb. 4, police had investigated four reported homicides in Durham, all of them fatal shootings, according to police statistics.
