A house fire in Hillsborough has killed one and injured at least two others as of Monday morning.

The Orange County Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that left one person dead and four others injured, according to a county spokesperson.

The two-story house on Faucette Mill Road north of U.S. 70 in Hillsborough caught fire shortly after 1 a.m. Monday.

Firefighters rescued three people who were later hospitalized, the Orange Rural Fire Department stated on social media.

Part of the house collapsed, trapping another victim where firefighters could not reach. That person, whose name and age were not released, was later found and pronounced dead, the post stated.

A first responder injured in the rescue operation was treated and released from the hospital Monday morning, according to the statement.

The condition of the hospitalized victims is currently unknown.
