Police say armed robber hit two places Monday night in Chapel Hill

An armed man robbed a store and a hotel across town in less than 30 minutes Monday night, police reported.

The suspect was described as a roughly 6-foot-tall man dressed in a black shirt and either black or khaki pants, police said. He had a small green towel covering his head and displayed a compact black handgun at both locations, they said.

Police responded to the report of a robbery at La Nueva Guadalupana, located at 405 W. Rosemary St., around 8:37 p.m. Monday, and then answered a call at 8:58 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel, 1 Europa Drive. The suspect didn’t take anything from the store, police said, but he did get an undisclosed amount of cash from the Sheraton Hotel.

Witnesses reported seeing the man get into the passenger side of a small, light-colored sedan.
