Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis will travel to Chapel Hill on Saturday to help Lillian’s List celebrate 20 years of support for female politicians working for reproductive freedom and equity for women.

Lillian’s List has recruited, trained, endorsed and financially supported women running for legislative and Council of State seats since 1997. Its affiliated PAC has endorsed 92 candidates and helped elect 53 women to public office.

Davis – best known for her 13-hour filibuster on the Texas Senate floor in 2013 against a bill that would have reduced women’s access to abortion care – has started a nonprofit since leaving public office. The nonprofit, Deeds Not Words, promotes gender equity.

N.C. state Sen. Terry Van Duyn will join Davis to answer questions before and after the 20th Anniversary Gala, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the Carolina Club, 150 Stadium Drive on UNC’s campus.
