Crash knocks out power, causes wrecks in Durham. Avoid these intersections.

Durham Police responded to a multiple crashes near the intersection of Page Road Extension and Page Road.

Durham police are warning motorists to avoid several intersections near the Research Triangle Park area Friday morning after a crash sent one person to the hospital and knocked out power.

Police responded to a multiple crashes as rush hour began around 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of Page Road Extension and Page Road, according to a news release.

Several utility poles were damaged during a collision, causing a large power outage in the area. One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

As of 8:18 a.m. Friday, traffic lights were out at these major intersections:

  • South Miami Boulevard/ TW Alexander Drive
  • South Miami Boulevard/Angier Avenue
  • Page Road/TW Alexander Drive
  • Page Road/Lumley Road

Motorists should avoid the area if possible.

The public is reminded to obey police officers directing traffic at intersections. If the lights are out and there is no officer directing traffic, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

Duke Power is en route, police said, but there is no estimated time for power to be restored.
