Dream come true? ECU student wakes up, buys scratch-off ticket — and wins $100,000
A North Carolina woman’s dream that she bought a scratch-off ticket led to her winning big.
Kaila Moore of Durham had a dream on Aug. 29 that she bought a scratch-off ticket, she told North Carolina lottery officials.
“So, when I woke up I went and bought one,” Moore said, according to a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Moore, who attends East Carolina University, went to the Food Lion on West Main Street and paid $20 for a scratch-off ticket for the $4 million ticket for the Gold Rush game, she told lottery officials.
Moore scratched the ticket at home and discovered she won a $100,000 prize. “I was with my mom,” she told officials. “She was more excited about it than me!”
Moore plans to use the money, about $70,000 after taxes, to help pay for her education, she said.
“I plan to go to medical school and medical school is not cheap,” she told the lottery. “I’m going to invest some of it in a mutual fund and the rest I’m just going to save.”
The Gold Rush game, which started in August, has two remaining $4 million prizes and three $100,000 prizes.
