Fire in Duke dorm room sparks alarm
Firefighters were dispatched Saturday at 7:48 p.m. to a Few Quad dormitory on Duke University's West Campus, only a couple hundred yards from the iconic Duke Chapel's main entrance.
A sprinkler system had been activated in a dorm room.
The firefighters extinguished a small fire.
“There was no structural damage to the room,” said Durham Fire Department Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi. “But the student needed to be relocated.”
All other residents have since been allowed back into the dormitory
Iannuzzi said the cause of the fire is not believed to be intentional.
