Durham police investigate homicide of 18-year-old

The Durham Police Department is investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Najay Peace, according to police reports. The shooting does not appear to have been random, according to investigators. No charges have been filed.

The incident marks the 26th homicide in Durham this year.

Officers answered a call at about 5:15 p.m. to a shooting in the 300 block of South Woodcrest Street. Upon arrival, the officers found a man outside on the ground with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.

A follow-up investigation is underway and additional information will be provided.
