A gun recovered last week following a car chase in Edgecombe County was linked back to an on-campus theft at Duke University in June.
A Duke spokesman said the gun, which was found in the possession of Khalil Wilkins after a car chase from Tarboro to Rocky Mount last week, was reported stolen by a visitor to the campus near Duke Hospital on June 14. The owner of the weapon was not identified.
Duke’s policy on weapons, firearms and explosives states that they are not permitted on campus.
“It is against university policy to possess and/or use a gun, rifle, pistol, or other firearm of any kind, or any powerful explosive on university property,” the policy says.
