Suspicious package reported at Durham immigration office

A suspicious package found outside an immigration office in Durham Wednesday morning turned out to be a duffel bag with blankets inside, police say.

The Durham Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious package in the bushes at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services at 301 Roycroft Drive shortly before 8 a.m. The building was evacuated.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office’s bomb squad was at the scene, according to Durham Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael. The squad determined the package was not dangerous, Michael said.

A person with an office nearby told WRAL News that he counted about 20 police cars on the scene.
