These are the celebrities recently spotted walking around Durham

Celebrities and their famous faces have recently been spotted walking and talking around the Bull City.

Comedian Lewis Black was sighted on Main Street.

He grabbed a latte from Beyù Caffè before performing his show The Rant, White & Blue Tour at it’s stop at the Durham Performance Arts Center last Friday.

The owner of Beyù Caffè, Dorian Bolden, said he and Black chatted as the latte was being prepared.

“We talked politics and about his show,” Bolden said. “He made a joke about tax cuts.”

Black, a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, recalled an undergraduate performance he gave on the Duke University campus while still himself a student, Bolden said.

Black recalled making a joke about Duke students’ money-making potential verses how much a comedy gig at Duke paid its comedians, Bolden said.

Black must have liked his Beyù latte, because he went back on Saturday for another.

“I wanted to talk to him again,” Bolden said. But, approaching the famous comedian two days in a row didn’t seem like the polite thing to do.

“I mean, I already got one picture with him,” Bolden said. “So, you know … ”

Michael Strahan

Michael Strahan too strolled Main Street this month.

The former standout defensive end, NFL football player and television personality had a meal at Dame's Chicken & Waffles.

Strahan spent his entire professional football career with the New York Giants, 1993-2007. At the time of his retirement after 15 seasons in the league, Strahan held a Giants team record having accumulated 141.5 career sacks.

Strahan was also spotted in the area watching his daughters’ equine activities.

Strahan was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

Randy Newman

Singer-songwriter Randy Newman stopped by the Counting House restaurant inside the 21c Museum Hotel before singing at The Carolina Theatre on Nov. 9.

Newman’s show included songs off his new album, Dark Matter, released Aug. 4 on Nonesuch Records.

Doug Williams

Strahan was not the only NFL star to recently visit Dame’s Chicken & Waffles.

Doug Williams stopped by as well.

As quarterback, Williams led the Washington Redskins to victory in Super Bowl XXII, becoming the first African-American starting quarterback ever to win any Super Bowl.
