Drive with extra care on 70 near East End Connector this weekend.
Drivers on U.S. 70 near the new East End Connector should be on the lookout for a new traffic pattern this weekend.
Work on that section of highway between Lynn Road and East End Avenue will reduce westbound traffic to one lane Friday, Sept. 15, according to a news release. Work on the eastbound lanes will begin when the westbound work is completed.
Traffic is expected to be back to two lanes each way — but on a new section of pavement — by 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.
This portion of the project is a step in upgrading U.S. 70 to a freeway between Pleasant Drive and N.C. 98/Holloway Street.
The East End Connector, slated for completion in 2019, is designed to alleviate congestion on the Durham Freeway through downtown Durham.
