High winds, hail buffet parts of Triangle

A fast-moving storm hit parts of the Triangle Thursday morning, bringing hail, rain and high winds to the area, downing trees and causing property damage.

The storms were created as a cold front and low pressure system collided.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch across more than 35 counties in central and eastern North Carolina through 1 p.m. Thursday including The NWS received reports of nickel-sized hail from Durham and other areas.
