Teenager found dead after 3-hour search at Jordan Lake, officials say
A teenager was found dead Sunday after drowning at Jordan Lake, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said.
First responders were called to the lake around 7:30 p.m. after the 19-year-old went underwater, according to a news release.
He had been at the lake with eight friends and a family member, “fishing and floating in the water on the opposite side of the roadside guard rail,” when his flotation device drifted away, the release stated.
The teen tried to retrieve the device “but is believed to have grown tired” and gone under, according to the release. His body was recovered 3 1/2 hours later.
The teenager’s name has not been released pending notification of family.
The drowning follows the deaths of two boaters who went missing at the lake July 6 as Tropical Storm Chantal blew into the Triangle.
Daniel Garcia Garcia, 25, and Manuel Mauro Sifuentes Soto, 36, both fathers of young children, lived in Durham.
