Aeromexico will offer a second nonstop flight between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Mexico this winter, when it begins flying to Cancun in December.

Aeromexico will join American and Delta in offering nonstop service between RDU and Cancun. Aeromexico plans to begin the flights Dec. 18 and operate them seven days a week initially, then scale back to five a week from Jan. 5 through April 12.

The flag carrier of Mexico made its debut at RDU last summer with nonstop flights to Mexico City. Aeromexico operates those flights in a partnership with Delta Air Lines, but the two airlines will compete on the route to Cancun.

Delta will offer a Saturday-only seasonal flight from Dec. 20 through April 11, 2026. Because of their partnership, passengers can book both airline’s flights on the Delta and Aeromexico websites.

Aeromexico will use Boeing 737 Max planes on its RDU-Cancun flights, larger than the Embraer 190s it uses on the Mexico City route. The Mexico City flights operate daily year around, except for September and October when the airline cuts back to five days a week.

The Mexico City route qualified for RDU’s incentive program for new carriers, including waived landing and facilities fees and up to $225,000 in marketing support over two years. Aeromexico chose to start the Cancun service without incentives.

Cancun is one of 14 international destinations served from the Triangle, including four in Canada and four in Europe. Aeromexico is one of a record 19 airlines doing business at RDU and the eighth based outside the U.S, including Air Canada, Air France, BermudAir, Copa, Icelandair, Lufthansa and WestJet.

This month, WestJet began nonstop flights to Calgary, while Air Canada started flying from RDU to Vancouver.
