Today’s the last day for a longtime ABC11 reporter and anchor, retiring after 31 years
Today is the last day on-air for longtime ABC11 reporter and anchor Anthony Wilson, who is retiring after more than 31 years at the station.
Wilson, who joined WTVD in 1993, announced his retirement in a live Facebook video on Sept. 22, noting that he started thinking about retirement about a year ago.
Wilson co-anchors the Eyewitness News weekend morning newscasts and reports weekday mornings.
“I’m not going anywhere locally,” Wilson said in the video. “You’ll see me out and about.”
Leading up to his final day on the air, Wilson shared photos of his time at ABC11 on social media.
“Anthony has been a pillar of the community, a vital member of our WTVD team, and a mentor to countless young journalists over the years,” ABC11 morning news co-anchor John Clark wrote in a Sept. 23 Facebook post. “I will miss his clear, solid reporting on our morning newscasts. (And a snazzy dresser as well!)“
Anthony Wilson’s journalism career
A graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, Wilson has had a long career in journalism.
Before he joined ABC11, Wilson worked at NBC affiliate WXII in Winston-Salem for three years, as a reporter and substitute anchor, according to his ABC11 bio.
He also previously worked as a reporter/producer for Florida Public Television, covering a variety of topics including the state legislature, assault weapons and homelessness.
Wilson was the anchor and host for the National Public Radio weekly news magazine “Crossroads.” In New York, he was a newswriter for the radio station WINS and an electronic media producer for the national communications office of the Episcopal Church.
