Orange County teen pedestrian dies 2 weeks after accident. The driver faces these charges
A driver is facing more charges after a teenager died Thursday from injuries sustained nearly two weeks ago when he was hit by a car on U.S. 70 in Hillsborough.
The 15-year-old boy, who has not been identified, was walking on the south shoulder of U.S. 70 near Central Avenue when the driver hit him with her car, Hillsborough police said in a news release. The boy was taken to Duke University Hospital with serious injuries and died at the hospital Thursday, town officials said in an update.
The driver, Monica Janette Dove, 51, of Efland, was charged immediately following the crash with driving while impaired, possession of a Schedule II substance and serious injury by vehicle. She was also charged Thursday with felony death by vehicle, the release said.
Hillsborough police are still investigating the crash.
