Two people drowned Sunday, one at Jordan Lake, another at Falls Lake

The bodies of a drowning victim at Jordan Lake in Chatham County and a boater at Falls Lake in Wake County were both recovered Sunday.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said that the body of Donald Semler, 73, was recovered near his boat, which was in the area of Poe’s Ridge Boat Ramp at Jordan Lake on Sunday. Semler, from San Antonio, Texas, was visiting family in Holly Springs and had been boating and swimming when he drowned.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office participated in the rescue effort along with N.C. Wildlife Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chatham County Emergency Management, Moncure Fire Department and Lee County Emergency Services.

No foul play was suspected, said the department.

Drowning at Falls Lake

Also Sunday, Wake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a late afternoon report of a possible drowning at Falls Lake, after a canoe flipped with three people inside.

That drowning victim, Dimitrio Lopez-Perez, 35, was found around 10:15 p.m. Sunday. Two other men in the canoe were rescued.

Northern Wake and Wake Forest fire departments, along with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office and State Parks conducted the search.
