Cary school evacuated after Google Doc bomb threat

Police say a bomb threat that prompted the evacuation of Alston Ridge Middle School on Wednesday was false.

Just after noon, the Cary Police Department announced the school on Fussell Avenue had received a bomb threat and was evacuated “out of an abundance of caution.”

The threat was posted via a Google document, police said.

Explosive-detection dogs cleared the building, and no explosive devices were found at the school, police said.

School threats in the Triangle area

Multiple students have been charged after making threats against schools in Durham and Wake counties this year.

On Tuesday, five juveniles in Chatham County were charged in a hoax threat at Chatham Middle School earlier this month.

In February, a juvenile was charged after allegedly making threats against Zebulon Middle School in Wake County.

Soon after, Wake County school leaders urged families and community to help stop the onslaught of threats by explaining the consequences to students.

Just a few weeks later, an 18-year-old was arrested for allegedly making threats against Research Triangle Park High School in Durham County. Investigators believe these threats also were a hoax.
