‘Ovies + Giglio’ sports podcast and YouTube show now available through The N&O
The newly launched “Ovies + Giglio” show, featuring sports talk personalities Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio, will be accessible through The News & Observer starting today.
Ovies and Giglio, formerly radio hosts on WRAL SportsFan on 99.9 The Fan radio, started “Ovies + Giglio” after their popular drive-time radio show “The OG” was canceled by Capitol Broadcasting Company’s radio division in late April and the pair were terminated. The public outpouring of support for Ovies and Giglio included coaches, national sports journalists and even the governor of North Carolina.
The duo launched their new show through their own network, The OG Live Podcast Co., one week later.
New episodes of “Ovies + Giglio” — available in both podcast and YouTube form — will drop four times a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Links to those episodes will be available through newsobserver.com/ovies-giglio.
“Have always appreciated my relationship with The N&O, with colleagues who have been incredibly helpful over the years dating all the way back to when I was first starting out in the business and was welcomed by institutions like Caulton Tudor,” Ovies told The N&O on Friday. “Over the years, many of those colleagues have become friends and I’m looking forward to partnering.
“The media landscape has changed dramatically in the last five years alone, but I still believe there is an audience that wants to connect with their favorite teams through people who have been covering the area for decades.”
Giglio is a former News & Observer sports writer who left the paper in March 2020 to co-host the radio show with Ovies. Ovies has worked in radio for 22 years, the last 13-and-a-half of those at 99.9 The Fan.
