A Raleigh neighborhood HOA has changed its mind about allowing renters
A south Raleigh neighborhood is reversing course and allowing long-time renters to remain.
Some residents of Renaissance Park, at the intersection of Tryon Road and South Wilmington Street, were surprised and angry when their homeowners association told them it would begin enforcing its covenants and ban renters.
Renters make up about 180 of the 1,000 single-family homes and townhomes in the neighborhood.
But the Renaissance Park Master Association Board of Directors told residents this week that it was backtracking on that decision.
“The (HOA) met this past Monday attempting to find compromise regarding the rental covenant issue within the tools that we had at our disposal,” according to a message sent to Renaissance Park residents.
Current renters will be “grandfathered in” or allowed to stay. The exception ends if the property is sold. And new rentals aren’t allowed after Jan. 1, 2022, unless “an approved hardship exemption” is approved by the HOA.
Guidelines for receiving an exemption will be released by the end of 2021, according to the message to residents.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
