NC DMV customer service line closed while call center worker gets coronavirus test
The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles has closed its call center in Bladen County as one of the workers there awaits the results of a coronavirus test.
The closure means people will not be able to use the DMV’s customer service line, 919-715-7000. After callers follow the prompts, they eventually receive a message that says, “We are operating under emergency conditions at this time and are unable to provide personal service. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
The N.C. Department of Transportation is referring people to the DMV section on its contact website, www.ncdot.gov/contact, where people can ask questions in writing.
It’s not clear how long the call center will be closed. DMV says it shut the center down temporarily for the safety of its employees and will reopen after the worker receives the test results.
About 140 operators normally work at the call center. That number had been reduced to about 65 to create social distancing space between them.
