Customer runs over cop’s foot, starts car chase after mask fight, Michigan police say
A customer angry about wearing a mask drove over a police officer’s foot before leading cops on a chase in Michigan, authorities say.
The police officer was injured when he responded to Jet’s Pizza in Grand Haven in response to a fight over wearing a mask at the restaurant Thursday night, the Grand Haven Tribune reported.
A woman had stuck her hands under a glass barrier at the counter to flip off workers and kicked another customer after she was asked to wear a mask, WOOD reported.
In Michigan, masks are now required in public places to prevent spread of COVID-19.
When the officer arrived, he asked the woman to stop, but she refused and ran over his foot before driving away, WOOD reported.
The woman led police on a chase before they stopped the pursuit, WZZM reported. She was later arrested by Fruitport Township police, the news outlet reported.
Tammy North, 56, was charged with resisting and obstructing police causing injury, fleeing and eluding and disturbing the peace, according to WZZM.
North was in Ottawa County Jail on Friday, records show.
The officer was treated and will recover, media outlets said.
