Here are NC nursing homes and care centers with confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths
Four North Carolina nursing homes experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks at their facilities have now reached at least 100 cases, according to data released Friday by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
On Monday, only two nursing homes had reached that number .
There are currently 52 ongoing outbreaks, 1,778 confirmed cases and 181 deaths at those facilities. The state began releasing data about confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths at congregate living facilities in response to pressure by advocacy groups and news organizations, including The Charlotte Observer, The News & Observer and others across North Carolina seeking access to this public data.
Here are the facilities with the 10 biggest outbreaks as of May 1:
1. The Citadel at Salisbury - Rowan County - 144 cases - 16 deaths
2. Pruitt Health-Carolina Point - Orange County - 109 cases - 16 deaths
3. Durham Nursing & Rehabilitation Center - Durham County - 111 confirmed cases - 12 deaths
4. The Laurels of Chatham - Chatham County - 101 cases - 8 deaths
5. Five Oaks Manor Rehab - Cabarrus County - 87 cases - 7 deaths
6. Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehab Center - Moore County - 80 cases - 3 deaths
7. Springbrook Nursing and Rehab - Johnston County - 79 cases - 11 deaths
8. Louisburg Healthcare and Rehab Center - Franklin County - 69 cases - 18 deaths
9. Grace Heights Health and Rehab - Burke County - 67 cases - 6 deaths
10. Monroe Rehab Center - Union County - 66 cases - 4 deaths
Pruitt Health-Carolina Point, the nursing home in Orange County, had one more case but five more deaths reported than Monday.
The Laurels in Pittsboro had 34 more cases than Monday and three more deaths. And Durham Nursing & Rehabilitation Center had 16 more cases and five more deaths than Monday.
People 65 and older and those with underlying health conditions are considered to be the most at-risk of a severe illness when contracting COVID-19, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
