The Juneteenth holiday is coming up, and that may impact whether you can run your errands.

As Triangle residents commemorate the end of slavery in the United States on Friday, June 19, local banks, post offices, libraries and government offices will be closed. But you may be in luck if you want to get fresh air or grab groceries, as many Raleigh-area parks and supermarkets plan to be open.

Here’s what we found when we scoured government websites and reached out to more than a dozen major grocery chains.

Bank and post office closings

On Juneteenth, the U.S. Postal Service will close all of its post offices nationwide and won’t deliver mail. But shipping services FedEx and UPS plan to operate on the holiday, and you can look up store hours on their websites.

Also, banks with a presence in North Carolina — including Wells Fargo and Bank of America — won’t open to customers in observance of the national holiday.

Raleigh-area Juneteenth closings

Wake County on its website said its offices, animal center and libraries will be closed on Juneteenth. But county parks and waste centers will remain open.

Meanwhile, the city of Raleigh in emails to The News & Observer said administrative offices will be the main ones it shuts down for Juneteenth. The closures won’t impact emergency services, including police and fire departments.

For a list of Raleigh park facilities open on the holiday, you can visit the city’s website.
