Restaurant closes Franklin Street location
Married couple Alberto and Rebecca Chedrani started The Latin Effect as a food truck in 2020. Alberto Chedrani’s family has roots in Honduras, and he hoped to introduce North Carolina residents to food from that country and beyond.
“Our dishes emphasize unique flavors and ingredients that are often masked in Americanized dishes of the same name,” the business wrote on its website. “At The Latin Effect you’ll find a variety of delicious tacos, taquitos, enchiladas and more.”
After five years of running the food truck, the restaurant opened a physical location on the Chapel Hill thoroughfare of West Franklin Street last year.
“No matter what kind of business you’re in, if you give people good service, people will come back,” Alberto Chedrani told The News & Observer before the restaurant’s grand opening in September.
Now, under than a year later, the brick-and-mortar location isn’t welcoming customers anymore. The Latin Effect in its Instagram post didn’t share a reason for the closure.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the permanent closing of our Chapel Hill restaurant, effective today,” the restaurant wrote in its May 28 post. “At this time, we can’t share our story, but we’re extending a HUGE thank you to the community we’ve come to know and love here on Franklin Street.”
The Street Food Finder website shows The Latin Effect’s food truck isn’t going far. On Wednesday, June 17, it’s scheduled to serve customers from 5:45 to 8:30 p.m. at Duke University in Durham.
WCHL first reported The Latin Effect’s closure. The N&O has reached out to the restaurant for additional information and is awaiting a response.
Other restaurants go out of business
The Latin Effect is one of several food or drink spots to experience a recent shake up.
The brewery Vicious Fishes closed its last Triangle taprooms, and Tobacco Road Sports Cafe shut down its Glenwood South location in Raleigh, The N&O previously reported.
