The 2026 Nissan Pathfinder Has Just One Trim Worth Buying

The Nissan Pathfinder can be a great value - if you know where to look. The Pathfinder covers a lot of ground through its trims, from front-drive economy SUV to all-wheel drive rock-crawler. It's tough to decide what's right for you, so we combed through Nissan's options catalog to figure out which of the SUV's five trims offers the best blend of affordability and excellent features.

The Pathfinder used to be a stout, body-on-frame SUV, but was regeared to fit a broader audience a few years back. Now, the mid-size SUV is a solid choice for growing families with its strong V6 engine and decent fuel economy. It's three rows also bring enough space to haul people and things alike.

What's New For 2026?

The big news for 2026 is a new screen. The Pathfinder benefits from an updated 12.3-inch screen that helps bring its tech experience into the current decade. Previously, the Pathfinder's systems had begun to feel dated - especially its blurry, nearly unusable backup cameras. That's all changed now, with Nissan offering a larger, higher-performance screen with wireless Carplay and Android Auto.

The other big change is something no other mainstream automaker has figured out yet: how to make a wireless charger that isn't simultaneously an oven. Nissan adds ventilation to its wireless charging assembly, as well as a magnet mount to keep your phone in place and cool while charging.

Finally, the brand also updated the Pathfinder's looks. A new bumper at the front, combined with new LED lighting elements, gives the SUV a more modern, crisp look. In the back, the story is much the same. Nissan offers new LED lighting arrangements with an updated, more modern bumper design.

The Pathfinder offers five trim levels: S, SV, SL, Rock Creek, and Platinum. All trims come with the same 3.5-liter V6 engine, making 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The Pathfinder starts life with front-wheel drive as standard, but all-wheel drive is a $2,000 optional extra on all trims but the Rock Creek, on which it is standard.

S: $39,045

S models start you off with some very basic equipment, like 18-inch wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and automatic climate control, and the aforementioned 12.3-inch screen that's new for 2026. Further standard equipment includes a six-speaker sound system and a second-row bench seat.

In addition, every Pathfinder gets the same safety features:

  • Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning
  • Forward collision mitigation
  • Rear automatic braking
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rear parking sensors

SV: $41,445

In addition to the above, SV models get a bit more luxury. That means heated seats and remote start, in addition to a powered liftgate and driver's seat. Tech features include adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, as well as front parking sensors and blind-spot intervention.

An available SV Premium package adds a sunroof, towing kit with 6,000-pound capacity, and a heated steering wheel.

SL: $44,045

SL models add leather upholstery, a digital instrument panel, wireless charging, a surround-view camera, and a few extra USB ports.

An SL Premium package adds the following:

  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 20-inch wheels
  • 6,000-pound tow capacity
  • Second-row captain's chairs with removable center console
  • Heated rear seats
  • Second-row sunshades
  • 13-speaker Bose audio system

Rock Creek: $46,545

Rock Creek trims take an off-road bent, with off-road-tuned suspension and a 0.6-inch lift paired with unique tires and all-wheel drive system tuning. They also net an extra 11 horsepower and pound-feet of torque on top of a tubular roof rack, unique upholstery, and a surround-view camera.

Platinum: $50,945

Platinum models include the SL's premium package, as well as leather ventilated front seats, power adjustment for the passenger, and a head-up display. In back, you'll find more USB ports and a hands-free liftgate.

The Pathfinder SV Is The Trim To Get

We think the SV trim is the best bargain in the Pathfinder lineup. There's plenty of niceties, like the model's heated seats and remote start. The addition of all-wheel drive also makes the SV a formidable four-season ride, and the driver aids should make it a solid commuter. Of course, if you do want a little capability, it's hard to go wrong with our runner-up pick, the Rock Creek. While it's a far cry from more capable and similarly-priced options like the Jeep Wrangler, it's also much better behaved and larger, perfect for the family looking to escape for the weekend without compromising on on-road manners.
