A business at Lafayette Village is closing after several years at the shopping center.

Koket Boutique opened at the North Raleigh’s Lafayette Village in 2019, though founder and owner Alexandra Del Rio started the business in 2016 after not being able to find clothes she liked in Raleigh, she told The News & Observer in a call.

The store operated in a shared space and then as a pop-up, before landing more permanently at Brennan Station for six months in 2018.

“I wanted people to like the fashion that we had, but also create a community of women, which we did, over the past 10 years,” Del Rio said.

Why is Koket Boutique closing?

The store owner cited economic changes as the driving forced behind the closure. Koket Boutique tried to absorb as many cost increases as possible to keep prices stable for customers, but for many items, costs increased by around 50%, Del Rio said.

The business survived 2025, but “there was so much effort into making it.” They didn’t expect to have more success in 2026.

“For 2026, we would have had to increase our prices, and in this economy, there is no room for that,” Del Rio said.

She added that some shoppers have visited the store not with the intention of buying something, but to try on clothes before purchasing them from an online seller.

“We are not Amazon. We never intended to be Amazon,” Del Rio said. “And our prices are not that crazy, but we give you a place to try on, to touch. We give you customer service and a safe space.”

Sale at Koket Boutique

Selling women’s clothing, jewelry, bags, body care and gifts, Koket Boutique is holding a store-closing, “everything must go” sale.

Shoppers can browse inventory online or in person, but all sales are final. Select clothing including fall and winter apparel are up to 50% off. Bags, gifts, barware and jewelry are 25% off.

The Lafayette Village store at 8480 Honeycutt Road Suite 118 is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday.

Koket Boutique’s last day will be Saturday, March 28.

Del Rio said she plans to take a few months off, traveling and spending time with her family. She previously worked in accounting and may re-enter the business world.

Restaurants, retail stores open at Lafayette Village

Lafayette Village is home to restaurants and retailers including Jubala Coffee, Simply Crepes, Le Macaron, Southern Craft Sandwiches, Lotus Noodle House, Franko’s Prime, Savory Spice Raleigh, Stuf n Such and Woofinwaggle.

The Italian sandwich shop Bongiorno & Son, which opened in Lafayette Village in 2020, was sold to new owners and is now called Mina’s Italian Market & Deli.
