Customers who attend the grand opening of the store will get a chance to meet the athletes and sign player cards provided by Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Peppers, who played both football and basketball as a Tar Heel before being selected second overall by the Carolina Panthers in the 2002 NFL draft, will be at the store Sunday, Oct. 12, from noon until 1:30 p.m.

To meet the athletes, customers will need a wristband, which are limited and will be given out on a first come, first served basis at the store opening on the respective days. Hill and Peppers will only sign player cards provided by Dick’s Sporting Goods — no outside items are allowed for signing.

In addition to the meet-and-greets with the athletes, Dick’s House of Sport’s opening weekend, scheduled for Oct. 10-12, will include gift card, Stanley Quencher and soccer ball giveaways.

Athlete appearances may not be uncommon for Dick’s House of Sport. When the Fayetteville location opened in 2023, Duke women’s basketball head coach Kara Lawson, former UNC basketball player Armando Bacot, former Charlotte Hornets center Alonzo Mourning and former Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis were set to appear, the Greater Fayetteville Business Journal previously reported.

What is Dick’s House of Sport?

The Streets at Southpoint location, at 6930 Fayetteville Road, will be the second North Carolina store for Dick’s House of Sport, a retailer associated with Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Durham’s store spans about 100,000 square feet and includes a climbing wall, multiple golf bays with TrackMan simulators and a multi-sport cage. The cage can be used for baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer, allowing athletes to try out equipment and test their performance.

The first Dick’s House of Sport in North Carolina opened in Fayetteville. In addition to the Durham location, Dick’s House of Sport is opening a store in Raleigh, in the former Sears space at Crabtree Valley Mall.

Outside of North Carolina, Dick’s House of Sport locations are planned for Alabama, Arizona and Texas, the retailer’s website shows.
