Trader Joe’s recalled this product sold at Triangle stores. It may contain plastic
A frozen food item sold at Trader Joe’s stores in the Triangle has been recalled because it may contain foreign material.
The grocer announced the news Friday, Feb. 14, saying the decision about the Organic Acai Bowl was made “out of an abundance of caution.”
Here’s what to know about the recall.
Which Trader Joe’s product has been recalled?
The Trader Joe’s brand Organic Acai Bowl may contain plastic, the grocer said.
Store employees at Trader Joe’s locations in Cary, Chapel Hill and Raleigh confirmed to The News & Observer over the phone that the product has been sold in store.
Federal agencies including the Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration, which often help publicize manufacturer- and grocer-issued recalls, did not publish information about this recall on their websites.
What should you do if you have the recalled item?
Anyone who has the product in their freezer should discard it or return it to their local Trader Joe’s store for a full refund.
Customers’ questions may be directed to the grocer’s customer service team at 626-599-3817 or online at traderjoes.com.
Other recent recalls
This is the latest product sold at local grocery stores to be recalled.
Earlier in February, canned tuna distributed to Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Publix and Harris Teeter stores in North Carolina was recalled, The N&O previously reported.
The recall was issued by California-based Tri-Union Seafoods “out of an abundance of caution,” after the company’s supplier said the pull tab on can lids encountered a manufacturing defect that could cause the products to leak or be contaminated with bacteria.
