Two grocery stores are expanding their Triangle footprint this November.

Harris Teeter is opening a new store at the Sweetwater Town Center development in Apex, and Trader Joe’s is opening in North Raleigh’s Brennan Station shopping center.

The Harris Teeter comes with amenities including a full-service Starbucks, a fuel center, a pharmacy and a bar serving wine and beer.

Trader Joe’s — known for its store-brand fresh, frozen and shelf-stable food items and viral tote bags — is moving into a 10,000-square-foot space off Creedmoor Road formerly occupied by O2 Fitness.

Here are the logistics:

  • Harris Teeter: 2810 Teachey Place, Apex. Grand opening 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12
  • Trader Joe’s: 8111 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh. Grand opening 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15

In case you were preoccupied last week with a little thing called the election, here’s some of the retail news you might have missed.

Furniture stores in the Triangle have been making moves lately.

After a long wait, RH Raleigh opened at North Hills. An old Bed Bath & Beyond in Durham will house Bob’s Discount Furniture.

And the latest furniture news comes from American Freight, a national retailer that’s shutting down all of its stores, as its parent company, Franchise Group, continues Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. American Freight has a dozen stores in North Carolina, including one in Raleigh.

Franchise Group also owns Pet Supplies Plus, The Vitamin Shoppe and Buddy’s Home Furnishings. But those three businesses aren’t closing, unlike American Freight.

Sales are happening in store and online, and customers can shop for appliances, bedroom furniture, dining tables and living room sets.

Months ago, The News & Observer reported that Miniso, a Chinese retailer offering toys, snacks, beauty products and other items, would open at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh.

The opening date was initially reported as sometime in July, but the store did not open over the summer.

It’s now expected to open in mid-November, on the second level of the mall near Ultimate Comics.

DGX is shutting down its store on East Davie Street in Raleigh, The N&O previously reported.

Compared to other Dollar General locations, DGX stores are smaller and offer more grab-and-go items. But the downtown Raleigh DGX sells fresh produce, setting it apart from other Dollar General stores in the city.

The N&O has asked when the store’s last day of business is. According to Triangle Business Journal, which first reported the closure, the store will close in early December.
